Digitalization offers important opportunites for the cultural and creative industry, making them more colourful and diverse at the same time. Niches are also represented to a greater extent, as there is room for everyone on the internet to find something that suits specfic interests.

Innovation and Digitalization in Culture and Art

The realm of arts and culture is now also affected by digitalization and will be fundamentally transformed in Germany and many other countries around the world. What does that mean for the classical cultural assets, such as literature, art, music, or theatre? While it is not expected that analogue channels will be completely replaced by digital counterparts, they will certainly be complemented by digital elements. This implies that artistic works like music, literature, and arts spread digitally, and cultural events take place virtually. As a result, anyone can create and share their works with a broad audience.

This digital revolution presents a crucial opportunity for the Culture and Creative Economy, making it more diverse and vibrant. As the internet provides a platform for all interests, even niche segments will find better representation in public and thereby create a dynamic and inclusive cultural landscape

The domain aims to keep the delicate balance between preserving cultural heritage and digital innovation. In close collaboration with the Culture Data Space – a joint project by acatech – National Academy of Science and Engineering, the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT, and further use-case related partners – the domain seeks to create a vital exchange between the data space and the Gaia-X ecosystem, supporting this lighthouse project of the German Federal Government’s digital strategy. Some use cases are already described and align with the core principles of data sovereignty and decentralized storage, analysing the requirements of the sector for Gaia-X.
