Domain Logistics

Domäne Logistik Logo
The logistics domain aims to make decisive progress in making supply chains smarter, more sustainable and more resilient with a data space within the Gaia-X ecosystem. Together with the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML), the German Gaia-X Hub offers a platform for anyone interested in sovereign and legally compliant data exchange in logistics.

Our Vision: Logistics 4.0

The vision for the sector can be summarized under the term Logistics 4.0: it aims to harness new approaches such as interconnected industrial production, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and data-based solutions. The idea of a digital continuum for logistics goes even further, creating a digital image of complete supply chains that self-learning systems use to control and continuously optimize processes. Such advances will remain a dream of the future as long as data cannot flow freely and legally securely. Therefore, the domain is developing blueprints that enable the sovereign exchange of data between different companies and systems.

The work incorporates experience from initial use cases and pilot projects, e.g. solutions for intelligent pallets, real-time collaboration using a digital twin of the entire supply chain, new mobility concepts for smart cities and technologies from the Gaia-X 4 ROMS project, which is working on an automated delivery system for parcels.
