Abstract

Although the term data space has been used increasingly in recent years, there is often a lack of clarity or disagreement about its meaning. This white paper therefore aims to contribute to a common understanding of the data space phenomenon.

To this end, among other things, a definition is developed according to which data spaces can be understood as: A federated, open infrastructure for sovereign data sharing based on common policies, rules, and standards.

This definition and its foundations will be further explained using the example of the Mobility Data Space (MDS).
